Travelling to Moggiona
Flying
Major airlines including Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways offer inexpensive flights from the UK to Italy.
We suggest you fly to:
Pisa (2½ hours’ drive from Moggiona)
Bologna (2½ hours’ drive)
Rome (3½ hours’ drive)
Florence (1½ hours’ drive, but smaller airport and not served by many major airlines)
Train
There are various options for reaching Moggiona by train. From the UK, the quickest route is:
Eurostar from London to Paris (around 2 hours 30 minutes)
SNCF TGV service from Paris to Milano (around 7 hours)
Frecciarossa or Italo high-speed train service from Milano to Firenze (1 hour 45 minutes)
At Firenze, you could either hire a car or continue on a regional train to Arezzo – the closest main line station to Moggiona – where car hire facilities are available (see ‘Hire cars’ below)
There are also other routes via Switzerland, and an overnight sleeper service runs between Paris and Milano. For a comprehensive overview of train travel options visit www.seat61.com.
Hire cars
All the major hire car firms are represented at the airports. If you are arriving by train, or just wish to avoid a long drive, you could instead choose to hire a car in Arezzo (under an hour’s drive from Moggiona). There is an Avis/Budget/Maggiore office conveniently located opposite the station.
Note you can easily collect a hire car from one location and return it to a different one.
Without a car
Though you will probably find it easier to have a car while staying in Moggiona, it is possible to arrive without one. There are around three buses a day (not Sundays) to/from the nearest town Poppi (around 10km away/10 minutes). Alternatively, upon arrival in Poppi you could ask in one of the bars for a taxi.
Poppi is served by fairly regular trains to Arezzo (journey time 50 minutes). There are also coaches to Firenze (journey time 2 hours).
